Chertoff Announces 2-year EADs for Individuals with Pending Adjustment of Status Applications that are Expected to Remain Pending for More Than One Year

Michael Chertoff, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), announced today that “beginning later this month” the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) will start issuing employment authorization documents (EAD cards) “with a two year validity period” for foreign nationals who are awaiting adjustment of status “if their application is expected to remain pending for more than a year.” The announcement was included in Secretary Chertoff’s “State of Immigration” address, which is available online at:
